In this project, we will develop a method for monitoring the state of the landscape based on scientifically verified, measurable, and relevant indicators. To monitor the state of the landscape, both the physical and perceived values of the landscape must be defined, therefore the indicators are both quantitative and qualitative. Different landscapes require different qualitative indicators, while quantitative indicators must be based on (existing) publicly available data and their (at least partially automated) interpretation.
ZRC SAZU is most involved in the development and calculation of quantitative indicators for the project. For this, we will use geoinformation data on landscape elements; most of the indicators will be calculated from existing databases (actual land use, real estate cadastre, topographic data, public infrastructure), while vegetation elements will be obtained from national orthophotos and airborne laser scanning data.
